 DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE

Dagenham & Redbridge 2 Leyton Orient 0

at The London Borough Of Barking & Dagenham Stadium

Npower League One

Will Target Reports....

The Daggers finally achieved victory for the first time as a League One side with a confident 2-0 win over local rivals Leyton orient, thanks to two goals from Frenchman Romain Vincelot.

The first chance of this anticipated derby came in the opening moments of the match, when Josh Scott had a save which was saved by Jamie Jones. Oreint’s Matthew Spring had a shot a few minutes later, but Romain Vincelot put the Daggers in front on 8 minutes. Danny Green crossed for the Frenchman who nodded the ball home from inside the six yard box.

The Daggers didn’t let up though, and a minutes later, Josh Scott nearly added a second, his shot fizzing wide of the left hand post. Another chance presented itself for the Daggers on 15 minutes when a Danny Green corner found the head of Scott Doe, who put his header high and wide.

Orient finally had a clear chance on goal on 20 minutes, when Matthew Spring’s corner was met by Ben Chorley from close range. It may not have been a huge chance, but Orient at least were coming back into it.

5 minutes passed, and a flurry of shots on goal from the Daggers threatened to double the lead. First Peter Gain had a shot, which ricocheted into the path of Gavin Tomlin, who’s follow up effort was deflected for a corner by Ben Chorley. After more pressure and build up play, Danny Green eventually fired the ball well over the bar, giving The O’s a momentary breather.

Orient found another half chance before the pressure against them continued. After Matthew Spring headed wide, the Daggers raced up the other end Gavin Tomlin had two good chances to score. The first, a header, went over the bar, and the second, a shot from outside the area, went the wrong side of the post.

There was another opportunity for the away side on 38 minutes, when Scott McGleish put the ball wide. Orient won a corner shortly after, and Matthew Spring swung it in for Alex Revell to shoot, but Tony Roberts tipped it behind for another corner, which was dealt with effectively. The Daggers went on the break, and Gavin Tomlin had a shot, but it was blocked by Ben Chorley. Vincelot tried for his scored his second from long range just before the break, but it well wide and the referee brought the first half to a close with the Daggers one up at half time.

The first shot of the second half came to Orient, and Scott McGleish. The strikers shot was blocked by Mark Arber. But on 50 minutes, Vincelot popped up again to put the Daggers 2-0 up. A Danny Green corner was knocked on by Mark Arber and headed home from inside the six yard box once again by Vincelot to double the Daggers’ lead. The Daggers were in this position last week against Tranmere, but gave away two late goals. Could they hold on for their first win this time?

The first response from Orient came 5  minutes later, Alex Revell’s header from a Dean Cox corner going just wide of the goal. Orients chances were few and far between, and they were being wasted. Orient needed to score soon if they were to have a realistic chance of a comeback and getting some points.

Adam Chambers was the next player to try his luck at pulling one back, letting fly towards the Daggers goal, but his shot was well blocked by Scott Doe. Orient were still trying, and they were beginning to look more threatening. Stephen Dawson had a shot on 66 minutes which was blocked by Scott Doe. Just a minutes later, a free kick was fired directly at goal by Matthew Spring, and was blocked by Josh Scott. The Daggers’ resilient defending was working well as the game entered the last 20 minutes.

But Dagenham would not be content with just 2-0. Damien McCrory had a shot blocked by Chorley, and then a minute later, Josh Scott came closer than any of his team mates when his shot from outside the area thundered against the Orient post. This huge chance was followed by two speculative long range efforts from Danny Green in quick succession, but both flew disappointingly wide.

With just over ten minutes to go, time was running out for Orient. Alex Revell shot from range and won a corner after Tony Roberts turned his shot wide. The corner found substitute Ryan Jarvis, who headed wide. This was followed shortly afterwards by a Dean Cox shot which sailed over the bar. It seemed as though it was game over for the O’s.

There was only one chance in the last 10 minutes, from Josh Scott, which was dragged wide of the Orient goal. After three minutes of stoppage time, the referee brought an end to the match, giving the Daggers their first win of the season.

Next week, the Daggers travel down south to Bournemouth, a side who have made a decent start. But now have they have their first win, the Daggers will hope to take a winning momentum with them to get a result away from Victoria Road.
