Burnley 2 West Ham 1 at Turf Moor
Barclays Premiership
A debut goal from Brazilian Striker Ilan failed to stop West Ham losing out to Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor.
West Ham manager, Gainfranco Zola, will be bitterly disappointed in the defeat as his men put in a courageous performance, with both Benni McCarthy, Mido and goalscorer ilan all looking lively.
Brian Law will be pleased with his debutant, Danny Fox, who doubled the lead in the second half, which proved to be the winner.
Early pressure from the hosts was rewarded after 14 minutes when loanee forward David Nugent latched onto a clever pass by Fox before coolly dinking the ball past Robert Green.
That goal seemed to illuminate the contest and kick-start the Hammers into a revival.
First it was Cole and McCarthy who linked up well, only for the former Blackburn frontman to steer his effort wide.
It was that man again, Benni McCarthy, who tries to pick out Cole in the Burnley box only for the home team to clear. Then McCarthy nearly had the equaliser - and a debut goal - but for Leon Cort to clear his goal-bound effort off the line.
Mido replaced Benni McCarthy for the second half. The former looked bright in the first, but seemed to have picked up a knock.
Good start for the Hammers in the second. A Mido strike fizzed past the post after the striker was played in by Carlton Cole.
Then on 55 minutes Burnley had their second. A goal by debutant Danny Fox, as he Blasted in belter into the top corner to leave Green helpless.
The away side almost hit back, with a difficult strike by Scott Parker held saved by Jensen. Then Carlton Cole had a goal ruled out for being offside, before Ilan pulled a deserved goal back.
But it was all too little too late. Few chances occured in the remaining minutes, as Burnley took all three points
