Romford Raiders have confirmed that they will play in Division 1 South next season, renewing much-missed rivalries with teams like Chelmsford, Invicta and Wightlink. Returning Raiders owner, Ollie Oliver, and re-appointed Team Manager, Mick Cahill brought the news back from a meeting of the English National Ice Hockey League South in Bracknell.
Speaking on the clubs website, Oliver admitted that the English Premier League “was never going to be a starter when we realised that sponsorship was not going to be easy to get obtain during a recession. We are hopeful though that potential sponsors who have shown interest in ENL1 will now help us out.”
League format will see 20 home and away fixtures plus a cup competition, with the added option of an Essex/Kent Cup. The club have also been offered a home fixture against a Finnish side, subject to confirmation by the English Ice Hockey Association.
Raiders have also announced that home-grown star, Danny Marshall, will become player/coach for the 2010/11 campaign. |
