Community Contributions

‘Community Contributions’ is an initiative from Barclays aimed at groups in the local community who need financial support. This scheme gives local groups the opportunity to apply for hundreds of pounds to help them out.

Throughout October 2008 we asked for nominations for local groups and organisations who wanted a share of a £5,000 fund provided by Barclays. After Linda Dobranja from Barclays Head Office, Claire Ogborn, the Manager of Barclays, South Street, Romford and Sarah Rawlings from Time 107.5 reviewed all the applications the successful winners of grants were invited to Barclays in South Street in Romford on Wednesday November 5th to collect their grants.

Community Contributions 2007

When we ran "Community Contributions" in 2007 we asked listeners to tell us about their group and what they would use the money for.  Nominations flooded in and were broken down into categories including hospices, children, over 60, sport and local community groups.  Requests included funding for pom-poms, badminton nets, football kit, hall hire and even a tea urn!

A panel of judges from Time 107.5 and Barclays faced the tough decision of who should win money, but eventually the grants were decided and on, and a special awards evening was held on 17th December  2007 at Barclays in South Street, Romford, to reveal who the lucky winners were.

Kevin Cooper from 1st South Hornchurch Scout Group and Time 107.5 promotions manager Jodie

Kevin used his grant of £500 to buy tents which will be used by the Scout Group, including Beavers, Cubs and Scouts ranging in age from  6 - 14.

The entire Scout Group is run by volunteers - on the awards night Kevin told us 'it is very hard to find time to organise funraising events, so the grant is a huge help'. The prize will benefit the entire Scout Group who are from South Hornchurch, Elm Park and Rainham.

Amanda Tubby from Friends of Brookside Junior School with Jodie

'Friends of Brookside Junior School' has recently been created to raise money for the school fund, which will go towards resources for the pupils.

Amanda will use her grant of £100 to buy a tea urn, which will be used at school fetes, events and fundraisers.  Amanda told us that the urn will help to generate even more funds, as profits made from selling tea will be go straight into the fund.

Barclays…contributing to the community!
